2¢ Carmine ~ 71UL22

I have not seen many re-entries on the Admiral issues where the doubling is localized to one outside area - in this case, the Lower Left corner.

2¢ Green ~ 182UR88 ~ A Long Search Rewarded

Marler lists three significant misplaced entries on the 2¢ Green on page 326. Until recently I had not been able to locate any examples.

Retouch, in the UL vertical line, which is reminiscent of the 3c Brown line of ants varieties

2¢ Carmine ~ Lines in Upper Right

This one appears to be Marler’s Type R31, but he does not mention of a stamp from these plates showing these characteristics.

Exploring MarlerAndBeyond Part 1

I was recently looking through a friends impressive Admiral collection. It contained a couple of lovely re-entries which were yet to be plated. Game on!

LINES THAT HAVE BEEN STRENGTHENED.

When the final impression of the stamp design on the printing plate was not satisfactory, the engraver could improve the final product. This improvement would be done by manually etching lines deeper into the plate.

Flaws

LINES AND MARKS THAT SHOULD NOT BE PRESENT.

Plate Flaws usually are the result of some kind of damage to the printing plate. This damage can be present before stamp production or can occur over the useful life of the printing plate.
